The term “sexual identity” describes a person’s subjective perception of their own sexual orientation, attraction, and identity in relation to other people. This might include romantic or sexual preferences, gender identity, and biological sex.
A person’s sexual identity is a very unique and complex part of who they are, and it may change over time and differ amongst people, cultures, and groups. In order to represent the range and complexity of human sexuality, common sexual identities include heterosexual, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, and queer, among others.
In order to explore and comprehend one’s sexual identity, one must be introspective, embrace who they are, and navigate the social conventions, biases, and stereotypes that influence people’s views on sexuality and identification. Respecting and valuing a range of sexual identities also helps to advance equality, dignity, and human rights for people of all gender identities and sexual orientations by fostering inclusion, acceptance, and empowerment.
